Install Windows XP Empty
PostSubject: Install Windows XP   Install Windows XP EmptyWed Nov 25, 2009 4:26 pm

Time to complete - Approx. 1hr

Ok, start by firing up your machine, and entering the BIOS or Setup screen when it asks you to strike a key to enter setup or on older machines, enter BIOS. Make sure your boot order is set to boot from CD ROM drive, then HDD (Hard Drive).

Insert the XP disk into the CD ROM drive and restart your machine. You will get a prompt saying "Press any key to boot from CD" to which, pressing any key will initiate the setup process.

You will be taken through to view partitions, where you will want to delete all, then create a new partition. Install to the new partition using NTFS (Quick). The machine will load up the setup files and restart.

This is where you can go and get a cup of tea. Leave the machine to do it's stuff, and when it asks to press any key to boot from CD, DON'T press anything and just leave it.

You will get a few popups asking for your location, time zone ect, to which is just straighforward. Then you will be asked to enter your license key (Unless it is a Dell machine, which it usually goes straight on without the license key prompt) which should either be on the bottom on a laptop, or on the side/back/bottom of a PC.

Now it will continue the installation, asking for a few more confirmation clicks, and then you should have windows XP installed.
